Kathleen Holmes, 79, died Monday, September 23, 2024, at the Good Neighbor Home Manchester after an extended illness.
Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held 11:00 Friday, October 4, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where visitation will resume at 10:00. Fr. Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 Thursday October 3, 2024 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. A parish Vigil Service will start the visitation at 4. The interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving are 3 children, Mike (Sue), Steve (Audra) Michele (Joe) Bayne, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and her brother, Richard Harms.
She was preceded by her parents, her husband of 58 years, Robert, and a sister, Vonita Joslin.
Kathleen Marie Harms was born October 24, 1944, at the Anamosa Hospital. She was the daughter of Herman and Henrietta Dirks, Harms. Kathy graduated from the Anamosa High School with the class of 1963. She married Robert Holmes on June 6, 1964, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello. Kathy worked in the hot lunch program for the Sacred Heart Schools. She also operated a day care from her home. Kathy and Bob started Holmes Transmission in 1984, where she was the bookkeeper. They retired in 2016 after 32 years.
Kathy had been a Camp Fire Leader and a Cub Scout Leader. She loved chasing after her grandchildren, picking them up from school, taking them to the swimming pool and supplying them with treats. She was an avid Packer Fan in the fall and a Cubs fan in the summer.
