Lone Tree
Marjorie C. Reese, age 103 of Lone Tree, formerly a longtime Coralville resident, died Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Pioneer Village in Lone Tree.
Marjorie Carolyn Fountain was born April 4, 1921, in Louisa County, Iowa the daughter of Harry and Sarah (Gallaugher) Fountain. Growing up in Lone Tree, she attended schools in the area graduating from University High School in Iowa City. She was united in marriage to Carl G. Reese on November 17, 1943, in Brooklyn, N.Y. The couple and their family lived in this area where Marjorie not only raised their family and took care of the home front, but she also worked a number of years for area hotels in their housekeeping departments. She enjoyed her involvement in the Senior Center and Johnson County Historical and was a lifelong quilter sharing her works with many.
Her family includes her son and his wife, Robert and Cathy Reese; daughter-in-law, Mary Reese; five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in 1971; son, Roy L. Reese; five sisters, Rosa Poland, Violet Frauenholz, Elsie Morgan, Lucy Hesseltine and June Allison; and 4 brothers, two in infancy and James Fountain and Harry Fountain.
A gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 29 from 4 to 6 pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. She will be buried with her husband, Carl, at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Moments Hospice of Hiawatha, Iowa.
