Edward W. Rocarek Jr., 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; children, Renee (Martin) Wood of Cedar Rapids; son, Rodney (Molly) Rocarek of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jenna, Blake and Brooke Wood and Wyatt, Colton, Maverick, Oakley and Memphis Rocarek; sister, Sue Szyszka of Norway; brother, John (Sue) Rocarek of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Eddie was born on Jan. 1, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Edward and Josephine (Pavlicek) Rocarek Sr. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School. On Oct. 4, 1964, Eddie married Barbara Treptow in Westgate, Iowa. Eddie worked in delivery and maintenance for Craemer's Clothing Store and then in shipping at LeFebure for 29 years until its closing. Later, he worked at ShopKo and Hy-Vee before retiring. Eddie enjoyed fishing, hunting and taking annual pheasant hunting trips with his family. He will be remembered as an avid race fan, especially Friday nights at Hawkeye Downs and NASCAR, and for watching Westerns and collecting Elvis memorabilia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Jerry Szyszka.
