Denise “Kim” McSweeny, 66, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the Winslow House Care Center in Marion. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the funeral home, with Certified Celebrant, Suzanne Seigel Renner officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Kim was born on January 10, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Betty (Bach) Eggers. She was a 1977 graduate of Kennedy High School, where she was a gifted athlete on the track team for all four years and held several running records. On March 3, 1979, Kim was united in marriage to John James McSweeny and to this union, two sons were born. She worked at the Marion Public Schools in the cafeteria and as a Teacher’s Aide at the high school in the special needs classrooms. Kim enjoyed listening to music, cooking, and babysitting children in her home. Kim cared deeply for her family and she did a lot for the people she loved. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Kim is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 45 years, John McSweeny of Marion; two sons, John “JO” McSweeny of Marion, and Ryan (Hannah) McSweeny of Rochester, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Olivia, Rowan, and Conor McSweeny; three siblings, Lisa (Randy) Rothmeyer, Sharon (Ron) Teufel, and Mark (Denise) Eggers, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
