Twelve days after an ImOn Communications worker died after being jolted during the relocation of an Iowa City house, the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday released the name of the Cedar Rapids father and said his death was accidental and caused by electrocution.
First responders were called at 9:53 a.m. Sept. 11 to Herbert Hoover Highway and Eastbury Drive where they provided medical attention and took Jay Enyart, 40, to a hospital, where he died of his injuries later that day.
An obituary published Sept. 14 in The Gazette said Enyart was born in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Jefferson High School. He had one son and was close with his family.
“His brightly colored sneakers and sense of humor always lit up a room. He very much loved the family he was given and the family he gained through his church. Most of all, he truly loved being a father. Jay will be greatly missed,” the obituary reads. He worked with the maintenance department at ImOn Communications, the obituary said.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, safety officials investigated 116 worker deaths between 2017 and this summer in Iowa. Of those, 12 were fatalities from electrocutions on the job.
Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials are looking into Enyart’s death also, a spokeswoman said.
"Our staff has begun an investigation but we can't release any details at this time," said Stefanie Bond, communications director for the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing.
