MARLENE HUMBLE

Marlene Humble, 81, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Mercy Hospital after a short illness. Born Feb. 19, 1936, she graduated from St. Mary's High School in Iowa City. She was married to Neil Humble on June 27, 1953.
Marlene enjoyed camping and road trips with her late husband Neil. She attended Hawkeye basketball games with daughter Brenda and swap meets with son Doug. She and son Mark even tried hot-air ballooning. Marlene and her sister Phyllis also explored their family roots with a trip to Donegal, Ireland.
Marlene's work history included Montgomery Ward Catalog Customer Service, the U.S. Census Bureau and six years with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Marlene was preceded in death by husband, Neil; parents, George and Margaret Dohrer; son, Brad Humble; brothers, George and William Dohrer; sisters, Phyllis Stepp and Carol Emerson; and grandchildren, Abigail Buda and Michael Humble.
Marlene is survived by daughters, Linda Humble, Omaha, Neb., Debra (Isidro) Ramirez, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Brenda (Mart) McAreavy, Iowa City; sons Douglas Humble and Brent Humble, Iowa City, Mark Humble, North Glen, Col., and Gregory (Loretta) Humble, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; brother, Robert Dohrer, Encinitas, Calif.; grandchildren, Rachel Lockhart, Rick Lockhart, Brent Buda, Adrienne Schlabach, Adam Miller, Amanda Fonteyne, Sean McAreavy, Krystal Goode, Kati Goode, Heather Humble, Neil Humble and Elizabeth Humble; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. A memorial service and committal will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade St., Iowa City, IA 52240.
