TIMOTHY HARMON WISTED
Houston
Timothy Harmon Wisted, 63, of Houston, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, after a short battle with cancer at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Houston, surrounded by his family.
Tim was born in Moorhead, Minn., on Jan. 5, 1955, to Harmon and Irene (Kilianski) Wisted. The family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1963, where he grew up, graduating from J.F. Kennedy High School in 1973. After a brief tour in the United States Air Force, Tim moved to Houston, where he became a specialized auto mechanic and worked for several large dealerships in the Houston and Spring areas.
Tim loved to barbecue, enjoyed his pet chickens that he called "his girls," boating and camping on Lake Conroe with his second wife, Mary. Tim married (and divorced) Debra Braatz (from Cedar Rapids), and he is survived by their two children, Cherri Burkhalter and Tracy Wisted; five grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. Tim married (and divorced) Mary Swaney and is survived by their stepchildren, Joshua, Jeremy and Roger Swaney and Tanya Tyrrell. Tim has two surviving sisters, Dorothy of Maquoketa, Iowa, Kathy of Auburn, Calif.; and a brother, Jerry of La Crosse, Wis.; and his stepmother, Sharon K. Wisted of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harmon and Irene Wisted; and sisters, Marie and Christine.
The Wisted family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the staff at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Houston, Texas, specifically the Palliative Care Unit, for their attentiveness and loving care. A memorial service will be held at the National Cemetery in Houston, Texas, later this spring.
The family is requesting memorial donations be made to your favorite veterans organization in Tim's honor.
