Laurene M. Sybil, 93, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Briarwood Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to service time on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to Briarwood Health Care Center, Camp Courageous or the charity of your choice. Laurene M. Conklin was born Sept. 29, 1924, in West Liberty, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Marguerite (Schenkel) Conklin. Her family moved to Iowa City within a few years of her birth, and there she attended Iowa City Schools, graduating from City High School with the Class of 1943. She was married to Evert Switzer before marrying John B. Sybil on July 28, 1970.

Her family includes her children, Judith Randall (Jerry) of West Des Moines and Carolyn Switzer of Iowa City; grandchildren, Scott Randall (Amy), Philip Randall (Andrea), Jason Randall (Emily), John Sybil (Tammy), Robert Sybil (Kristie) and Teresa Stillwell; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Marilyn Irvin; and numerous nieces and nephews; extended family - Evert's children include Stephen Switzer (Britta) and his son James Switzer; Sydney Switzer and Suzanne Erenberger (Joel); and dearest family friends, Becky Bohlken and Vicki Curran.

Laurene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brother, Clarence; and sister, Shirley.
