Jay Leno to feature Iowa, Big Boy

Well-known gear head and comedian Jay Leno will be telling the world about his ride on Union Pacific’s Big Boy steam locomotive in Iowa on Monday.

Leno was aboard Big Boy 4014 when the world’s largest operating steam engine traveled from Council Bluffs to Denison in western Iowa on Sept. 4. He hopped off before the engine and crew continued on to Belle Plaine and Eastern Iowa on Sept. 5.

Leno said on Facebook this week he’ll be reporting on his Big Boy experience in Iowa in a video that posts to his YouTube channel — Jay Leno’s Garage.

Most of the videos on his YouTube channel — it has more than 1,000 videos and 3.7 million subscribers — are of classic and super-speedy cars and eye-popping vehicle restorations.

But Leno will turn his attention to the steam engine this Monday and said he’d tell viewers if the Big Boy steam engine could fit into his garage.

Big Boy 4014 toured several Midwestern and Southern states as part of Union Pacific’s “Heartland of America” tour.
