Reverend Monsignor Karl L. Glovik, 89, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on September 14, 2024.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church with Monsignor Thomas Toale officiating, with Fr. Mark Ressler as Homilist. Burial will be held in St. John’s Cemetery in Independence, Iowa. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is assisting the family.

Monsignor Karl Glovik was born on June 30, 1935, in Independence, Iowa, son of Leo and Hilda (Soener) Glovik. Monsignor Glovik pursued his education at Loras College in Dubuque, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and studied Latin, English, Classics, and Philosophy. His devotion to the Church led him to be ordained on March 18, 1961, at the Cathedral of Dubuque by the Most Reverend Leo Binz, D.D.

Throughout his life, Monsignor Glovik faithfully served various parishes across Iowa. His first assignment was as Associate Pastor at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church Dubuque (1961–1968), followed by Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo (1968–1970), St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids (1970–1973), St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque (1973–1978), Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids (1978–1980), and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo (1980–1982).

His pastoral leadership continued as he took on the role of Pastor at Ackley-Geneva Catholic Church (1982–1984), St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dubuque (1984–1991), and both Immaculate Conception and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Churches in Cedar Rapids (1991–2005).

Monsignor Glovik was honored to be named a prelate of honor by Pope John Paul II on October 5, 2003, a testament to his unwavering faith and commitment. In addition to his parish duties, he was appointed Director of Archdiocesan Pilgrimages for the Holy Year in 1974 and served as Dubuque Deanery Council Moderator, ACCW, in 1985. After 44 years of selfless service, Monsignor Glovik retired on July 12, 2005.

Reverend Monsignor Karl L. Glovik is survived by his brother Richard (Mary Jane) Glovik, seven nieces and nephews Robert Glovik, John (Amy) Glovik, Julianne Campbell, Michael Glovik, Ann (Jerry) Waterbeck, Mary Glovik, and Elizabeth Berry.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Hilda, brother Robert (Beverly) Glovik, and two great-nephews.

Memorials may be given to the Priest Retirement Fund of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.
