Reconsider sitting out this election

Are you a non-voter or an occasional voter? If you’re thinking about sitting out this year’s elections, you should reconsider.
A lot has happened in Iowa politics since the last presidential election. Iowa’s not the same place you knew years ago. Our sensible, moderate leadership is gone. Our state is now run by politicians who claim to defend freedom. What they don’t tell you is that their idea of freedom includes only those who agree with their narrow views. Don’t listen to what they say. Watch what they do.
Like interfering with personal health care decisions by limiting the care allowed in Iowa. These politicians think they know better than trained medical professionals.
Like controlling what and how our teachers teach. And banning books they don’t like. These politicians think they know better than trained teachers and librarians.
Like interfering with workers’ rights to unionize. That bill failed to pass. But it could return in future sessions. These politicians think they know what’s right for working-class Iowans.
If you’re thinking about sitting out this year’s elections, you should start paying attention now. Our current lawmakers are stripping away our freedoms before our eyes. Don’t think they won’t go farther. They’ve already shown us who they are. They will take away more of our rights. Your rights could be next!
Let’s dump these politicians who take away our freedoms! Let’s elect real leaders who will protect our rights!
Iowa, vote this November like your rights depend on it! Because they do.
