Sterling, Ill.
Gladys M. Hannan, of Sterling, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at her home.
She was born on Nov. 28, 1932, in Nelson, Ill., the daughter of Joseph Patrick and A. Bernice (Brown) Murphy. She married William F. Hannan on July 3, 1954. He died Dec. 18, 1990. Gladys had worked at the former Kline's Department Store in Sterling for many years. She was an active and faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. Gladys' family was of the utmost importance in her life.
Survivors include five daughters, Karen (Ken) Reynolds of Sterling, Kathy (Lew) Wescott of Sterling, Barb (Ron) Newlon of Rock Falls, Ill., Janet (Bob) Chandler of Marion, Iowa, and Joleen (Oscar) Cortez of Sterling; two sons, David (Andrea) Hannan of Arlington Heights, Ill., and William (Marybeth) Hannan of Savannah, Ga.; her sister, Glenna (Wade) Wickline of The Colony, Texas; her son-in-law, Paul Little of Marion, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Hannan of Sterling; 18 grandchildren: Denice (John) Froiland, Daniel (Tracy) Rivera, Seth Wescott, Thad Wescott, Tyler (Amanda) Wescott, Renee (Grant) Gilliland, Carrie (Trent) Fish, Ryne Newlon, Kim (Mike) Biechler, Mike Hannan, Nicole Cortez (Nick Dowdy), Shea Newlon, Sam Hannan, Tim Hannan, Isaac Hannan, Mateo Cortez, Maggie Hannan and Brayden Cortez; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; her daughter, Mary Little; and her great-granddaughter Ruby Gilliland.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Ave. in Sterling, with the Rosary being recited at 12:45 p.m. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Rev. James Kennan officiating. Private family burial will conclude at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon, Ill.
