James Paul Sanderson, 77, of Walker, IA died Monday, September 9, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, IA.
James was born on September 21, 1946, in Oelwein, IA, the son of David and Darlys (Oltoroge) Sanderson. He grew up on a farm in rural Elgin, IA, and graduated from the Valley of Elgin High School in 1966.
On September 7, 1974, James married Carolyn Krugger at the Methodist Church in Giard, IA. They made their home in Monona, IA, where they raised their children. They were later divorced.
James worked for about 10 years at Miller Dairy in Elkader, IA, and went to work for Prairie Farms Creamery in Luana, IA. He worked the graveyard shift for twenty-seven years. James liked to stay busy and during the daytime he often did various odd jobs for people he knew.
In the early 2000s, James moved to his sister's farm, Betty Lopata, in rural Walker, IA. There he helped out on the farm and helped Betty at farmers markets for many years. He made many friends in the Walker area and enjoyed spending time with them. James spent so much time with his nephews they became more like brothers than nephews to him.
James loved spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also loved going out to dinner with his son and enjoying a good steak dinner whenever he could.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. James was a die-hard Packers Fan (Go Pack Go!). He never missed watching a Packers game.
He is survived by a son, Brian (Molly) Sanderson, Robins, IA, a daughter, Jennifer Sanderson, Cedar Rapids, IA, three grandchildren; Zach Sanderson, of Texas, Dawson Sanderson, Cedar Rapids, IA, Kennady Sanderson, of Arizona, a sister Betty (Ron) Lopata, Walker, IA, a brother, Don (Wanda) Sanderson, Altoona, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his parents, David and Darlys Sanderson, and an infant sister, Darlene Sanderson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA, Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the service on Monday. Burial will be held at Troy Mills Cemetery in Troy Mills, IA.
