Mary C. Henkels, age 81, of Hiawatha, IA, passed away at the St. Luke’s Transitional Care Center on Monday, September 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Mary was born on June 27, 1943, in Guttenberg, IA. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna (Bogart) Frommelt. On October 5, 1968, Mary married the love of her life, Ervin Henkels. Mary enjoyed gardening, embroidery, baking, and she was an avid reader. Mary loved being a grandma.
Those left to cherish Mary’s memory is her husband, Ervin, of Hiawatha; her children, Pamela (Allen) Rathe, of Greeley, CO, and Rebecca (Trevor) Ulferts, of Cedar Rapids, IA; her grandchildren, Evelyn, Grace, and Tanner; she is also survived by four generations of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and an infant grandson, Brayden Rathe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Heart Association and or Camp Courageous.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital and the St. Luke’s Transitional Care Center for all the love and support they showed Mary, while she was in their care.
