Russel Eugene Streeper, 90, of Onslow, Iowa died on Monday, September 2, 2024, after a brief illness, at his home surrounded by his family. Russel never knew a stranger, referred to himself as a sweet ornery old GOAT, and loved big. He was a dedicated family man and great friend. His passing will leave a void for many.
Family and friends of Russel may call from 4 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m., on Friday at the funeral home.
A Celebration of Life for Russel will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Temple Hill, Iowa with Rev. Mark Osterhaus officiating and Deacon Jay Reilly assisting. Burial will be held in the church cemetery with full military honors afforded by the Wyoming American Legion Post #0259.
Russel was born April 15, 1934, in Anamosa, Iowa. Son of Alva B. and Elma Frances (Holub) Streeper. Russel was a 1952 graduate of Onslow High School, Onslow, Iowa. He attended Farm School at Iowa State University. Russel served our country in the Army from January 1955 to December 1957.
September 8, 1960, he was united in marriage to Therese Marie Hayes at St. Martin’s Church, Cascade, Iowa. Russel and Therese farmed in rural Onslow on the Streeper Heritage Farm. They were recipients of the Jones County Dairy Farm Family of the Year Award.
Russel was a faithful member of the St. Peter’s Parish in Temple Hill, Iowa. He farmed his entire life and was a salesman for Archer Oil, Moorman’s Feed, Agri Pro and Wyffels Seed. Russel was a past 4-H member, Jones County Onslow Cornhusker 4-H Leader, member of the Jones County 4-H Youth Committee and Jones County Extension Council. Russel was a proud member of Wyoming Legion Post #0259. His hobbies included family, attending events for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing stories, hunting, reading, spending time at the family timber, Western movies, attending farm equipment auctions and completing several puzzles.
Russel is survived by six children, Mary Monica (Clint) Gray, Monticello, Iowa, Michael Joseph (Beth) Streeper, Onslow, Iowa, Steven Russel (Jodi) Streeper, Conroy, Iowa, Kathryn Marie (David) Johnson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sarah Ann (Gary) Henry, Deep River, Iowa, Ann Frances (friend Matt Rogers) Streeper, Mechanicsville, Iowa. 15 Grandchildren, Austin (Anne) Streeper, Ashley (Matt) Kurt, Bailey (Andrew) Bottelman, Samantha Drummy, Casandra (Nic) Gilson, Marinna (Kevin) Kroh, Paulina (Jason) Falteisek, Heath Putnam, Clarissa (Chad) Overton, Anthony (Erin) Streeper, Jaden Johnson, Zachary (Jessica Knoll) Henry, Lindsey Henry, Korbin Walton, Piper Walton; 25 Great Grandchildren and one on the way in September; two brothers Robert “Bob” (Carol) Streeper, Marion, Iowa and Bernard “Bernie” (Teri) Streeper, Anamosa, Iowa, several nieces and nephews and special friend Viola Finn.
Russel is preceded in death by his wife Therese Streeper in 2005, his parents, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the VA Hospital in Iowa City and Above and Beyond for all the wonderful care they gave to Russel.
