Nancy O’Brien
North Liberty
Born August 1953 to Thomas McGillin and Dolores Rourke. Raised in the idyllic town of Cosgrove, Iowa, enjoying a wondering and charmed life. Married August 1972 to Thomas O’Brien, Jr. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove. They remarkably shared their mutual love of music and together they enjoyed many memory-filled years of rail-related travel. Additionally, supported voluntary efforts as members of the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom, Wisconsin. Adding to their joy was the birth of two sons, Colin Thomas and Macklin Connor.
Survived by her family of angels on earth – Patty, Barb, Mick, Mike and Joan McGillin, and Peggy, Mike and Katherine O’Brien.
Also surviving are her children Colin and Molly and Mack and Ellen with their children Oliver and Rowan and Felix and Cora (Coco), along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews – Brett, Amy, Evan, Shea, and Riley; Chad, Melissa and Carson; Luke, Rebecca, Claire and Ella; Shamis and Liam. As well as a fierce clan of cousins.
Predeceased by the love of her life, Tom Jr., her parents, Tom and Dolores McGillin, Tom Sr. and Betty O’Brien, and her brother, sweet Dana James.
Would like to express heartfelt gratitude to so many lifelong friends, who provide a continued village of support. Among them – friends of her 41-year career at UIHC and treasured friends – Jeff and Cindy Haertlein of North Freedom, Wisconsin, Jerry and Carol Mennenga of Iowa City and the Mid-Continent Railway family.
In lieu of flowers – contributions may be directed to the North Liberty Community Pantry or the Mid-Continent C&NW #1385 Fund.
In her memory – please take a moment to notice: the magnificence of a sunset, the elegance of stars in the nighttime sky and the beauty of a rainbow. Forever be kind to each other and always keep a good thought.
A celebration of life will be planned for a future location, date, and time to be determined.
