A Marshalltown man was arrested over the weekend on charges that he intentionally hit and killed a Tama man with his car.
Police were called to the area of North 12th Avenue and Bromley Street in Marshalltown around 5:45 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Marshalltown Police Department.
Ezra Oliver Seymour, 23, of Tama, was found unresponsive in the street. He had visible traumatic injuries, according to the release. He was taken to the hospital in Marshalltown hospital, and was later transferred to Des Moines, where he died.
Earlier that morning, Seymour had gotten into an argument with several people, including Trequan Merez Cosgrove at Cosgrove’s house in Marshalltown, according to a criminal complaint.
Seymour left the residence on foot and can be seen in nearby surveillance footage walking south away from the house, the complaint states. Cosgrove is then seen leaving the house in a white Cadillac. A few minutes later, Seymour was found injured in the road a couple of blocks away from Cosgrove’s house.
The Cadillac was later found by police inside Cosgrove’s garage, with damage consistent with hitting a person, according to the complaint.
Cosgrove, 25, is charged with first-degree murder and control of a firearm by a felon, after police also found a firearm in his bedroom. He is not allowed to possess a firearm after being convicted in 2019 of going armed with intent.
Cosgrove’s girlfriend, Jaimee Yajaira Alcaraz-Gutierrez, 26, also was charged in relation to Seymour’s death. She is accused of helping Cosgrove hide the car by opening and cleaning out the garage at their shared residence. She is charged with accessory after the fact, a felony.
Both Cosgrove and Alcaraz-Guitierrez are being held in the Marshall County Jail.
