Randall Palmer Martin was born May 23, 1952, in Iowa City, the son of Arthur and Mildred (Palmer) Martin. He attended schools in the Iowa City District, graduating from West High School in 1970. He went on to enlist in the armed services, serving his country in the United States Army. On Sept. 9, 1989, he married Kristi Sweeney in Iowa City. He worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital for nearly 35 years before his retirement in 2014. He took tremendous pride in assisting our veterans with anything they needed throughout the years. He never missed an opportunity to help friends and family or anyone who needed it - his generosity was limitless!
Randy enjoyed life in the simple lane, watching and collecting movies, listening to all types of music, fishing, enjoying get-togethers with family and friends, going on numerous road trips, and taking his best friend, "Chief" (his dog) to the dog park. He was a very generous, warm-hearted friend, brother, and dad, and he will be missed by many.
His family includes his son, Seth Palmer Martin (Hannah Tompkins); granddaughter, Zion; brothers and their wives, Greg and Nancy Martin and Mitch and Lynn Martin; nieces and nephews, Kelly, Jon, Chris, Jenny, and Cole; his former wife, Kristi Larios; and his dog, Chief.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Ricky.
