Judith “Judy” A. Torson, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Swisher, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Grand Living at Indian Creek in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral service will be held 3:00 PM on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial to follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Judith was born December 30, 1940, in West Union, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Evalyn (Schlatter) Lueder. She attended school in West Union, Iowa, graduating in 1958. Judy was part of the first class of North Fayette County High School. She then furthered her education by attending Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, from 1958 to 1962. Judy achieved a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. This led to a move to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She taught at Cleveland and Pierce Elementary Schools from 1962, until her retirement in December of 1992.
Retirement meant a new adventure, a move to Grand Lake in Oklahoma. She and Doug enjoyed lake life from 1992 to 2007; followed by a return to Iowa.
Douglas Archie Torson and Judy were married on July 19, 1967. Judy enjoyed a variety of recreational activities. These included baking, sewing, board games, and especially bridge. She was also a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
Judy is survived by a sister, Barb Lueder, and extended family members, lifelong friends and acquaintances. She is preceded by her parents, two brothers, and spouse, Doug Torson.
