Kenneth Duane Erickson, 89, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at his home in Vinton due to natural causes.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, with the Rev. Dave Neas officiating.
Kenneth was born May 23, 1928, in rural Vinton, Iowa, the son of Carl and Clara Moser Erickson. He attended country school and Lincoln High School in Vinton.
On Dec. 1, 1948, Kenneth was united in marriage with Donna Jean Smetzer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2006.
Kenneth worked for a local farmer before starting his own business, Erickson Trucking, in 1964. He retired from his business in 1990 and later went to work for Benton County Secondary Roads for 14 years, retiring in 2006.
Kenneth was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Vinton. He enjoyed carpentry and working on trucks. He had a fabulous sense of humor and was known as a jokester.
Kenneth is survived by two daughters, Janet (Dave) Goodell and Diana Tharp, both of Vinton; brother, Don (Edna Winsor) Erickson of Vinton; two grandchildren, Kelly (Luke) Williams and Chad Tharp, both of Vinton; and five great-grandchildren, Joy Whitson and Lewis, Carly, Ryan and Spencer Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Glenn and Carl Erickson; and two sisters, Edith Gustafson and Mabel Williams.
A memorial fund has been established.
