CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Saturday after police say he shot a man during a failed drug deal near Kirkwood Community College.
Police were called to the 6600 block of Kirkwood Boulevard in southwest Cedar Rapids just before 3 p.m. Saturday to investigate a shooting following a medical call, according to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
First responders located a person with what appeared to be two gunshot wounds — one in his shoulder and the other in his leg. That person was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that are non-life-threatening, according to the news release.
Following an “active investigation that lasted several hours,” Seth McGraw, 24, was arrested. The incident was captured on video surveillance, according to a criminal complaint. McGraw was in possession of a stolen gun, as well as methamphetamine, marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms, the complaint states.
McGraw was charged with willful injury causing serious injury; trafficking in stolen weapons; person ineligible to carry weapons; use of a weapon in the commission of a crime; and multiple drug-related charges.
Kirkwood Community College issued a public safety bulletin shortly after the shooting, stating it happened in the vicinity of Scooter’s Coffee near the school’s main campus. Despite the proximity to the campus, the bulletin said Kirkwood officials did not believe it presented an active threat to the main campus.
McGraw is being held in the Linn County Jail.
