IOWA CITY — Iowa football’s health situation seems to be improving as the 2024 season looms one week away.
“A lot of guys are starting to trickle back in the last four or five days,” head coach Kirk Ferentz said on Thursday. “A lot of the camp-type injuries are seeming to clear up right now.”
Most notably, starting running back Leshon Williams has returned to practice after missing much of fall camp.
“Leshon’s had a couple of good days,” Ferentz said. “He’s limited in terms of the volume. He’s missed a lot of time. But he made a really nice blitz pickup coincidentally this morning, which allowed us to have a good completion on the play.”
Wide receivers Seth Anderson and Dayton Howard — two of the other players who missed Iowa’s Aug. 10 open practice — are “getting back into the swing of things," Ferentz said. Anderson and Howard’s return could be especially valuable as fellow wide receiver Kaleb Brown serves a one-game suspension against Illinois State.
Defensive coordinator Phil Parker said earlier in the week that safety Koen Entringer has returned to practice and safety Xavier Nwankpa “should be back in the next couple days.”
“(Entringer) looks like he’s fully healthy out there,” Ferentz said.
In terms of new injuries, Ferentz said there is “nothing significant.” Running back Kamari Moulton has been out with a “minor” injury to his “lower leg,” but Ferentz expects him to be “ready to go here on Monday hopefully.”
