Sherman’s experiences provide context

I appreciated Norman Sherman’s column (Aug. 12) on LBJ’s announcement that he would not run again, and the ensuing race. Today’s news often feels like we are being whipsawed from one headline to the next, but historical context reminds us that as Americans, we have always had political drama. Our 24 hour news cycle, dependent on clickbait and dopamine rushes, heightens it.
Thank you Mr. Sherman, for your political history lessons and your continued willingness to share your experiences with readers of The Gazette. It reminds me daily that we are not careening toward the edge, rather that we’ve always lived more or less comfortably on it for as long as we’ve existed as a nation.
