Darlene Mae (Geiger) Werning, 91, passed away on Monday August 12, 2024, at her daughter’s home in rural Vinton.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. Private family interment will be held at Big Grove Cemetery, at a later date.
Darlene was born January 12, 1933, in Vinton, the daughter of George, and Lena (Criswell) Geiger in Vinton, IA.
Darlene was united in marriage to Robert C. Werning on August 18, 1951, in Cedar Rapids.
Darlene and Robert farmed south of Vinton. Darlene also worked as a C.N.A. at Virginia Gay Hospital and the Vinton Lutheran Home for many years. She was a member of the Benton County Cowbelles and enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of several card clubs throughout her life. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Carol Lee of Bethany, MO, Coleen Lathrop of Cedar Rapids, Karen (Charles) Fountain of Vinton, Darrell (Laurie) Werning of Vinton; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and her brother Ronald (Carol) Geiger of Vinton.
In addition to her parents, and husband Robert, she was preceded in death by her son, John Werning; brother Norman Geiger, sister Charlene Cordes, and sons-in-law Daniel Lee and Robert Lathrop.
