Edward Francis Gorman, 97, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Keystone Cedars. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories: 4200 1st Ave, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402. The burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Edward was born February 27, 1927, on a farm near Blue Earth, MN, the son of Harry and Mary Julia. Ed attended a one room schoolhouse until 8th grade. He graduated from Campion Jesuit High School, a boarding school in Prairie du Chien, WI. In 1950, Ed received a BS degree in Secondary Education with a focus in math and science from Mankato State University. Ed served in the United States Army Signal Corps during the Korean War teaching radio repair at Camp Gordon in Georgia from 1950-1952. After his service discharge, he taught high school math and science in Wood Lake, MN. He returned to Marquette University to receive an electrical engineering degree in 1955. Ed met his wife at Rockwell Collins and married in 1957. They were married for 67 years. He was employed at Rockwell-Collins for 35 years.

Edward is survived by his wife, Rosemary of Cedar Rapids, IA; two daughters, Christine Bogucki of Fridley, MN; and Catherine (Jon) Petersen of Cedar Rapids, IA; a granddaughter, Sarah (Kyle) Smith of Kansas; grandsons, Paul Bogucki and John Bogucki both of MN; and a great-grandson, Mason Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John, two sisters Margaret Mary SSND and Elisabeth Furlette; his stepmother, Mathilda Pokorny; and great granddaughter, Maya Smith.

Ed loved baseball and basketball. At age 17, he started playing baseball for VFW in Blue Earth, MN. Then he played for Camp Gordon, GA while in the military. When moving to Cedar Rapids, Ed played third base for All Saints Church and Mudville-Nine softball teams. Both teams had many championship wins. Ed started playing basketball in high school and then college. After college, he played on various league teams.

In retirement, Ed enjoyed playing golf, and duplicate bridge. Ed was five points from becoming a bridge master. He was an avid Hawkeye and Notre Dame fan. He traveled throughout the United States and abroad, but his favorite destination was Ireland where he felt right at home.
