Canetana Cortez Hodges, 97, passed away at home with family by her side in Oviedo, Florida, on August 9, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Canetana was born September 16, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Canetana was formerly a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, Kingdom Hall, Pioneer Ave Congregation. She was an avid reader, loved doing crosswords and puzzles, and enjoyed weekly Bible studies.

Canetana is survived by Son, Leland (Carla) Cox of Long Island, New York; Daughter, Mary Jo (Dave) Reynolds of Oviedo, Florida; Niece, Bettina Miller of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews.

Canetana was preceded in death by Parents, Lily and Ynocencio Cortez; Daughter, Glennis Thurmond; Son, Daniel Hodges; Grandson, Gabriel Hodges-Slaman.

Canetana is the last of 6 siblings who also preceded her in death: Juan Cortez, Sr., Daniel Cortez, Felice McCray, Marnita Cortez, and Venellie Cortez.
