Carol Ann White was born July 31, 1952, in Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Evelyn White. She attended and graduated from schools there in Guttenberg. She lived there until coming to Iowa City over 30 years ago where she had worked for NCS-Pearson for many years.
As a young person living along the Mississippi she learned how to sew and mend fishing nets, first for her husband, than later many of the commercial fisherman in the area would have her fix their nets. This led to a lifetime of weaving and caning chairs. She was also talented in painting, writing short stories, children’s books and music, but most important to her was her family, especially her grandchildren!
Her family includes her five children, Kelby Behrend, Kevin Behrend, Perry Behrend (Dayna Hubbell) Amanda Behrend and Sherri Mathis (Spencer); seven grandchildren, Sydney, Bryton, Brady, Kinzie, Caleb, Jace, and Mara; and Carol’s two sisters, Charlotte Ronek and Karen Sheber; and many nieces and nephews.
