David Carothers, 83, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Memorial service will begin at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024. Inurnment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Hiawatha.
David was born on April 7, 1941, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of William E. and Lilian M. (Natzel) Carothers. He served honorably in the United States Navy on the USS Dunn County LST 742. On October 28, 1964, David was united in marriage to Barbara Cable, until her passing on December 18, 1985. In 1989, David married Dixie May Lovell in Hiawatha, Iowa. He worked as an electrician for the IBEW Local 405 and IBEW Local 55 for 41 years. David was a member of Hope United Church of Christ, the VFW Post #788, and the Marion American Legion Post #298. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, trips to Alaska, day or weekend road trips, and spending time with family and friends. David will be remembered for his witty sense of humor by all who knew and loved him.
David is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Dixie; children, Constance (Mark) Dahlin, and Dave Carothers; grandchildren, Rachel (Adam) Herman, Joshua (Ashley) Dahlin, Cody Carothers (Fiancé, Mariah), and Brandon Carothers; great-grandchildren, Bailee, Kolbie, Jace, Cullen, and Luna; and dear friends, Duane and Sue Bierman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Ruby Wethington; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Cable.
