David Martin Young, also known as “Dave”, “Navy Davey”, “Daddy David” to his kids, and “Grandpop”, “Peepaw / Old man”, “Opa” to the grandkids. After struggling with heart complications for almost two months at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, he spent his last month showing so much improvement under hospice care spending his time in the comfort of his homestead hobby farm, Young’s Haven, surrounded by family. The Lord called him home, on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, at the ripe ole’ age of 76.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at United Church of Christ in Tipton, Iowa with a luncheon following the service. Burial will follow the luncheon and be at Rochester Cemetery with a VFW Honor Guard services.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Faye Ellen (Elder) Young; his former wife, Nancy (Cook) Koerner; children, Brett Young of Florida, Amy (Daniel) Lusche of Iowa City, Bridgette (Jon) Petty-Hatfield of Iowa City, and Leah (Rob) Ritter of Swisher; stepchildren, Stacy Hummer of LaGrange Georgia, Ryan Dewulf of Valley Alabama; twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Cindy, Jerry, and Tim.
