Lila L. Drexler, 99, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Marion. In agreement with her wishes, graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Center Point Cemetery, in Center Point, Iowa, with her son-in-law, Fred Aljets and Pastor Robert Heasty officiating. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion is assisting the family.
She was born the daughter of Joseph and Genevieve (Floyd) Hills on April 28, 1925. After graduating Valedictorian of the Central City High School Class of 1942, she married Don Drexler June 27, 1942, living a short while on base in Palm Springs, CA, until he was sent to the European theater during WWII. Following this, they made their home in Central City, IA. Throughout her lifetime, she had many different jobs including bookkeeper, bank teller, postal worker, and sharing responsibility in various family businesses.
In the later years, she assisted Fred & Donna's children's ministry by sewing more than 2,500 Gospel story bags, which have been used worldwide. In 2006, Don's illness brought them to their daughter's Marion home. Whether pursuing her hobbies of reading, sewing, gardening, crafting, or playing Scrabble, she always did her best.
Lila is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Donna (Fred) Aljets; two grandchildren, Paul (Nicole) Aljets of Phoenix, Arizona, and Myndi (Chris) Sobotka of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, and her husband, Don.
Her race has finished, and we will all miss her wit and love for the family. Thank you to all who made her final days tolerable.
