The 2024 Iowa high school all-state softball teams are released

Benton Community is the area’s biggest winner of the 2024 softball awards season.

The Bobcats, who finished fourth in Class 3A at the state tournament last week, led all area schools with three first-team all-staters and five total all-staters, as selected by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Seniors Jessa DeMoss and Emma Townsley and junior Ana Glawe are the first-team picks.

The Bobcats finished 32-9, reaching the 3A semifinals before suffering a 10-7 loss to Davenport Assumption.

Benton’s trio is part of 21 area first-team selections.

State champions Williamsburg (3A) and Sigourney (1A) both landed two first-team selections.

Five-year starter Shannon Finn and pitcher Jersey Metz represent Williamsburg (33-12), which has won back-to-back 3A titles and has finished in the top three each of the past five years.

The Raiders were Wamac Conference West Division champions, finishing one game ahead of Benton. They outslugged Assumption, 12-9, in the 3A final.

Reigning Gatorade state player of the year Carly Goodwin, a University of Northern Iowa recruit, and catcher Josephine Moore are Sigourney’s first-teamers.

Goodwin finished with more than 1,300 career strikeouts. The Savages (26-7) won their first title in dramatic fashion last Friday, scoring two runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to edge Martensdale-St. Marys, 3-2.

Six Metro/Iowa City players earned first-team honors, including the all-junior battery from 4A regional finalist Cedar Rapids Xavier (pitcher Braylen Conlon and catcher Katie Pilcher).

Michaela Goad of Marion also was a 4A first-team pick. Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s Olivia Young, Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Lily Knutson and Iowa City Liberty’s Haley Schroeder were honored in 5A.

Hayden Gookin of Mount Vernon and Pearson Hall of West Liberty are first-team picks in 3A.

Alburnett’s Ingrid Landa and Savannah Caves and Lisbon’s Addi Petersen were selected in 2A; Skylar Benesh and Mackenzie Bridgewater of North Linn and Rachel Eglseder of Edgewood-Colesburg join the Sigourney duo in 1A.

Williamsburg’s Adam Berte and Sigourney’s Shelly Streigle are coaches of the year in their respective classes after guiding their teams to state championships.
