CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids couple has donated $1 million to Mercy Medical Center to support the renovation of the Cedar Rapids hospital’s downtown emergency room waiting area.
The couple chose to remain anonymous, Mercy said in a news release.
“The couple, their four adult daughters and seven grandchildren have been grateful patients of Mercy Medical Center for several decades,” a statement said, noting the couple has consistently supported Mercy “both personally and through their family business” for 21 years.
“This donation will enable us to update and enhance our emergency room waiting area, ensuring we continue to provide the best access, convenience, safety, and comfort to our patients and their families when they need it most,” said Dr. Matthew Aucutt, the medical director of Mercy Emergency Services, in a statement.
The renovation of the emergency room is to begin in August. During construction, the waiting area will be relocated to a nearby space. The ER will remain open and fully operational.
