Shirley Alice Moore, 88, of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024 at Colonial Manor of Amana. A Catholic Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 30. Visitation will be one hour before Mass.
Shirley was born May 26, 1936 in Ottumwa, Iowa to parents George and Alice Moyer (Kosman). She had two brothers, George and Don. Shirley graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1955 and afterward graduated from Ottumwa Heights College. On August 17, 1957, she married Jerry Wayne Moore at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottumwa. Jerry, along with his two sons Chris and Cliff, founded the J.W. Moore Process Equipment Company in 1985 where Shirley worked as a receptionist until 2004.
Shirley was a loyal parishioner to St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. As part of her commitment to the church, Shirley served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. One of Shirley’s favorite things was giving time to her family. She frequently attended the church functions and school activities of her children and grandchildren. Whether that meant rooting for them in the crowd of a basketball game or participating in a sacred Catholic sacrament, Shirley wanted to be at every milestone. She always made sure to let those around her know how much she cared for them.
Beyond her responsibilities to church and family, Shirley was extremely passionate about Traveling in their motorhome and donating money to many Casinos. She enjoyed playing the game of Bridge throughout her life, she formed many long-lasting relationships with other enthusiastic players. She achieved the rank of Gold Life Master. Shirley was a loving pet owner, having cared for a number of Boston Terrier dogs, giving each one an abundance of warmth, love and attention.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Deb of Iowa City, her sons Chris (Deb) of Atkins and Cliff (Kim) of Mt. Vernon. Grandchildren are Zach, Ben (Abby), Brittani (Aaron), and Brooke. She also had three great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kyan, and Paige.
The family of Shirley would like to offer their deepest gratitude to Colonial Manor and Essence of Life Hospice, Amana, Iowa, also to Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, Iowa.
