Wayne P. Engle

Wayne P. Engle, Marion, died July 22, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness.
Wayne was born February 8, 1933 in Ottumwa Iowa to Louise and Philip Engle.
At Ottumwa High School Wayne met Shirley Ann Johnson and a partnership began that lasted over 70 years until Shirley’s passing in 2021. Wayne joined the Air Force after graduation and was stationed primarily in Anchorage, AK where Shirley joined him.
Upon being discharged, Wayne started his training as an electrician in Cedar Rapids and in 1964, Wayne and business partner Larry Swann formed E&S Electric (now The ESCO Group), headquartered in the Engle’s basement. Wayne was active in the electrical contracting industry serving on municipal boards and national associations. At the time of Wayne’s retirement in 2006 as Chairman of The ESCO Group, he had served in numerous capacities for Junior Achievement, Linn Mar School Board, Linnhaven, and many other civic and community organizations. After the floods in Cedar Rapids of 2008 Wayne formed a group of retired electricians and engineers to wire and repair homes that were damaged in the flood at no cost. The group collectively was referred to as “Old Farts Electric” and the name stuck, serving over 300 families. With two other local businessmen Wayne co-founded the Marion Cares ministry. Wayne exemplified faith and service.
