Nicholas Paul Klinkhammer, 63, formerly of Cedar Rapids & Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully at his home in Farmington, IA on July 8, 2024.
Nick was the seventh of nine children born to loving parents, Dorothy and George Klinkhammer on January 5th, 1961. A native of Cedar Rapids, he graduated from Washington High School in 1979 and completed his bachelor's degree from Truman State University in 1983. After college, he began a successful 27 year career at Yellow Book USA, where he credited the many great co-workers he had and considered them close friends.
Nick, known to many as “Klink,” was an avid outdoorsmen and conservationist, who loved sharing his passion for hunting and fishing with his children and friends. No amount of success in his outdoor pursuits could surpass his greatest joy of all, which was being a father. Nick’s character - sarcasm and all - lives on in each of his four kids - whom he loved unconditionally.
Nick knew what it meant to be a good friend and with his gift of gab and quick wit he made new friends wherever he went. He especially cherished the big group of childhood friends that remained close his entire life.
Nick will be forever loved and missed by his surviving family members, including the love of his life, Susie Klinkhammer, of Mount Vernon, their four children Jack, Emma, Connor, and Caroline; sisters Gail Munsell of Wayzata, MN, Jan Gibson of St.Charles, MO, Jill Breidenbach of Denver, CO, Sue Bright of Cedar Rapids, IA, Lori (Bob) Ledoux of Ponte Vedra, FL, Lisa Stark of Kansasville, WI, Dave (Sheri) Klinkhammer of Chesterfield, MO, and Molly (Steve) Bjornsen of Marion, IA, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and George Klinkhammer, his father and mother-in-law, Don and Gloria Fagan, and his dear friends and brothers-in-law, Ron Stark and Bill Munsell.
Being born into the Klinkhammer family was a blessing that brought with it a strong support system of siblings and beyond. For the entirety of his life, Nick reveled in the love and friendship of many wonderful people - the greatest testament of a life well lived.
A private family funeral and burial have been scheduled. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 3rd. Friends and family are welcome to attend an open house at Indian Creek Nature Center in Cedar Rapids between the hours of 4 and 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pheasants Forever or the Indian Creek Nature Center.
