Dean Allen Paulson was born the son of Lynn and Dorothy (Brennan) Paulson in Bemidji, MN on December 17, 1958. The family later moved to East Dubuque, IL, where he grew up and attended school. On May 27, 1977, he married Pam Rettenmaier in East Dubuque. From this union two sons were born. The couple would later divorce. On September 26, 2001, he married Becky Bauer in Anamosa. He was employed as an electronics tech and business process analyst at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids. He retired after 33 years of service.
He was a former member of the Anamosa Fire Department and was a former union steward for IBEW. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Fawn Creek Country Club. He and his sons were avid Minnesota Vikings fans. Dean spread the travel bug to his family through his “spontaneous adventures” and “power vacations”. In his travels he visited all 50 states, Great Britain, Europe, and Australia. In retirement he found a natural talent in painting and drawing, and enjoyed spending winters in Chandler, AZ. Most of all, Dean loved spending time with his family.
He will be remembered by his wife Becky, his children Clayton (Ashley) Paulson, Keith (Ashley) Paulson, Heather (Toby) Heiken, Rachael (Jeff Weers) Bauer, and Jim (Sara) Bauer, grandchildren Kasin and Will Paulson, Ian and Ceci Paulson, Kyrstian (Mike) Saari, Kasper Heiken, Myranda and Mady Moenck, Ethan Milder, Sophia Raubs, Reese, Lillian, and Kinsley Bauer, three great grandchildren, his brother Randy Paulson, in-laws Matt (Jan) Boyer, Cindy (Lee) Johns, and Todd (Jonita) Boyer, as well as by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Mason Bauer, his parents, his father and mother-in-law Joe and Georgina Boyer, his sister Carol King, and his brother -in-law Jeff Boyer.
The family would like to thank the staff of Above and Beyond Hospice for their wonderful and dedicated care.
Memorials, in his honor, may be directed to University of Iowa Healthcare – Stead Family Children’s Hospital, or to the Jones Regional Medical Center.
