Robert “Bob” L. Lewig, Sr., 86, of Fairfax, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Robert was born on September 6, 1937, in rural Fayette County, Iowa, the son of Irvin & Katherina (Mahler) Lewig. He graduated from Alpha High School. He married Frieda McKormick on September 8,1957. To this union, Robert Jr. (Bobby) was born. They would later divorce. On May 1st, 1970, he married Shirley Ann Green in Rock Island, Illinois. He worked as a welder for FMC Link-Belt retiring in 2001.
Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and spending lots of time with grand-children and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert “Bobby” Lewig, Jr., two granddaughters, Haley (Josh) Puccio, and Lindsey; five great-grandchildren, Lexie, Tanner, Nolan, Aubrey and Brayden; sister, Doris Wickham, brother-in-law, Richard Gefaller and niece, Sharon Mueller as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years who was the love of his life, Shirley Lewig; his parents Irvin and Katherina Lewig; sisters Doretta (Melvin) Schlatter, and Laura Gefaller; brothers Arnold (LaVonne) and LaVern (Judy)
He will be dearly missed.
