CEDAR RAPIDS — A new restaurant in downtown Cedar Rapids is serving Italian cuisine with Cajun and Creole twists.
The District CR, a new venture by owners Desiree DeMaria and Amanda Rops, held a soft opening on July 2 at 415 Third St. SE. A grand opening is scheduled for July 11.
It serves what is described as Italian cuisine “infused with the heart and soul of Louisiana.” A limited menu preview features options like Cajun shrimp jalapeno poppers; Cajun rib-eye; a New Orleans-inspired flatbread with andouille sausage; and bananas foster. The restaurant also has a full bar with craft cocktails.
Located in the Sokol Gymnasium building, the space was previously home to Backpocket Brewing Pilot Pub and Taboo Nightclub and Lounge.
