NORTH LIBERTY — Corda Credit Union will open its first Johnson County location this fall.
The new building, expected to be completed in September, will be located on Hayes Lane in North Liberty, just north of West Penn Street.
The credit union will be part of the larger Solomon’s Landing development, which will include restaurants and entertainment options.
“We believe it's the perfect location to serve membership on a recurring basis, where there's going to be repetitive traffic flow there, just for the family events, the basketball courts, soccer fields, things like that,” said Paula O’Rourke, president and CEO of Corda Credit Union.
The preliminary site plan for the new building was approved by North Liberty’s Planning Commission and City Council in June. The plans call for a 5,046 square-foot single-story building on 1.03 acres. It notes there will be a drive-thru at the building, and the property will have direct access to West Penn Street and Hayes Lane.
The credit union, which previously was known as Linn Area Credit Union, changed its name in May.
“The name change really sparked a springboard effect for us to think about growing outside of Linn County. With Johnson County being our neighbor to the south and North Liberty growing so aggressively felt like a natural move,” O’Rourke said.
O’Rourke said there were misconceptions associated with the previous name, including the belief that only people who lived in Linn County could do business with the credit union.
Corda Credit union serves customers in 22 Iowa counties. However, all of its current physical locations are in Cedar Rapids and Marion.
The new North Liberty location will be the credit union’s first outside of Linn County.
“The city of North Liberty has been amazing to work with and we've started a really great partnership on how we can better serve the community and be a partner in North Liberty to make sure we're providing not only financial products and services, but also being a true community ambassador and providing that community impact along the way as well,” O’Rourke said.
Solomon’s Landing is a $20 million development that received city approval last year. Through a development agreement, the city will provide tax incentives worth up to $7.5 million.
The district is adding an indoor recreation building, a bowling entertainment center and a Pizza Ranch restaurant. Developer Brandon Pratt told the city in 2023 that the district would generate $30 to $40 million of annual spending in North Liberty.
