Earn $20 gift card for shopping at some downtown Iowa City businesses

IOWA CITY — Starting this week through Aug. 8, customers at some downtown Iowa City establishments affected by a construction project will be eligible to receive a $20 gift card.

Customers who spend $150 or more at participating businesses impacted by the Dubuque Street reconstruction project can turn in their receipts to the Iowa City Downtown District. Taxes, tips, delivery fees and shipping costs can’t be counted as part of the purchase. Customers can turn in up to five receipts as part of the program.

A district staff member will verify the purchase and send an email confirmation to the customer. Gift cards will then be mailed out within seven business days.

The gift cards can be used at 165 locations throughout the area including restaurants, shops and parking ramps.

The program is part of the Downtown District’s effort to encourage people to visit businesses impacted by the construction. The project, which began in March, will replace both the road and sidewalks on Dubuque Street between Iowa Avenue and Washington Street.

Pedestrian access to businesses has been maintained throughout the project, which is expected to be completed this fall.
