Marcia E. (Newcomb) Hogan, age 77, passed away in her home on Monday, July 1, 2024, with her husband at her side.
Marcia was a graduate of Williamsburg High School, earned her B.A. from St. Louis University and M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Iowa. She taught English as a Second Language at Cornell College. Marcia was a Master Gardener of Johnson County.
Marcia was united in marriage to John Hogan on July 11, 1970, in Iowa City at the Newman Center. Marcia and John were the last proprietors of the Burg Bowl and Snack & Yak in Williamsburg, which was opened by Marcia’s family in 1957. At her death, Marcia was the director of the Williamsburg Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband, John; three sisters, Caryl Jensen, of Williamsburg, Winifred J. Newcomb and Mary C. Newcomb, both of Maplewood, MN; a brother, James Newcomb (Susan VanDyck), of Memphis, TN; sisters-in-law, Clemence McMindes Newcomb, of Phoenix, AZ and Judy (Charles) McCarthy, of Green Valley, AZ; brothers-in-law, Bernard Hogan, of Mankato, MN and William (Kathy) Hogan, of Lake Elmo, MN; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winifred J. And William J. Newcomb, sister, Sheridan Coles, brother, William Newcomb, parents-in-law, Jeannette and Bernard Edward Hogan, brother-in-law, Richard Jensen and sister-in-law, Judy Hogan.
A celebration of life gathering for Marcia’s life will be announced at a later date. The family would like to thank Jacque and her team at Essence of Life Hospice for all of their exemplary service and wonderful care.
