Michael A. Ette, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Center Point, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, at ManorCare. The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point, with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Center Point Cemetery.
Michael was born Dec. 9, 1938, in Keokuk, Iowa. He was the son of Joseph and Margaret (O'Day) Ette. Michael graduated from Keokuk High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1957.
Michael married Janice "Jane" Irons on Aug. 5, 1978, at First Christian Church in Center Point. Jane passed away in 2015. He was a foreman for Cargill in Keokuk and then in Cedar Rapids until his retirement. Michael loved to joyride around town in his golf cart and he was quite the prankster. Michael also liked to collect geo rocks.
Survivors include his children, Michael Ette of Center Point, Robert Ette of Marion and Tammy Rudd of Donnellson, Iowa; stepdaughter, Andria (Vic) Jones of Center Point; numerous grand- and great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Claybough of Rock Island, Margaret Belknap of Rock Island, Janet (Don) Rhodes of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Don Ette of Colorado; and sister-in-law, Kay Ette of Texas.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; parents; stepdaughter, Janine Troup; sisters, Helen Ette and Barb Varner; and brothers, Joe and Richard Ette.
