IOWA CITY — Randi Henderson is back in Eastern Iowa, now as an assistant coach for the Iowa women’s basketball team.
A Cedar Falls native (she was Miss Iowa Basketball in 1997) and former Iowa player as Randi Peterson, Henderson has been named to Jan Jensen’s staff, as has Sean Sullivan.
A former head coach at Coe College, Henderson spent the last seven seasons at Washington University in St. Louis.
As a player, she was a three-year starter for the Hawkeyes and was a member of Lisa Bluder’s first team, which won the Big Ten tournament title in 2001.
In nine years at Coe (155-91), Henderson also served as the department’s assistant athletics director and senior women’s administrator. She coached the Kohawks to three 20-plus win seasons, including a school-record 26 on their way to the NCAA Division-III sectional semifinals in 2010-11.
Wash-U was 103-54 in Henderson’s seven seasons in St. Louis.
Henderson’s husband, Duez Henderson, played for the Iowa men’s basketball team.
As an undergraduate at Iowa, Sullivan spent four years as a women's basketball manager, then became the team's video coordinator.
He served as the director of player personnel, development and recruiting operations at North Carolina for two seasons. In June 2023, his title was updated to reflect his added role as an assistant coach for the Tar Heels in his third year with the program.
