Sandra “Sandy” Umsted died June 21 at Carmel Health and Living Center Hospice in Carmel, Indiana. Sandy was born August 12, 1937, to Dorothy and Erwin Mann in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Mar Mac High School, McGregor, Iowa.
Sandy married Ronald “Ron” Umsted on August 16, 1959, in Cedar Rapids. They lived in Marion and Cedar Rapids until 1980. They resided in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Mesa, Arizona. Sandy spent her remaining years in Indianapolis near her daughter.
Sandy is survived by two children, Kristi (Gary Selker) of Fishers, Indiana and Kerry (Terri) of Chandler, Arizona. Grandparents to Casie (Jarred Lund); and great-granddaughter Emmy. Grandparents to Rylee Umsted; great-grandparents to Mila and Grayson, all of Chandler, Arizona. Her sister Sharon (Dave Harris) of Cedar Rapids, her brother-in-law Dean Moel of Lisbon and sister-in-law Sharon (Roger Jones), St Petersburg, Fla.
Sandy was a lab tech at St. Luke’s hospital and longtime Avon Lady. She won many sales awards in her years with Avon. Sandy and Ron supported all of their kids’ sports and activities, spending many hours at youth, high school and college swimming, tennis, basketball and YMCA Indian Guides. In their later years they loved volunteering for the YMCA National Masters Swimming Championships at the Swimming Hall of Fame pool in Fort Lauderdale Florida.
We welcome all those who know and loved her to join her family at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, on Saturday, June 29 for a 10:00 am visitation with a short service beginning at 11:00 am.
