Dorothy M. Weltha, 80, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Reinbeck Community Church. Burial is private. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Dororthy was born on May 30, 1944, in Grundy Center, Iowa, to her parents Edward and Esther (Brower) Aswegan. She was raised in Grundy Center and graduated from Grundy Center High School in the class of 1962. On June 21, 1963, Dorothy was united in marriage to Dennis Weltha at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. They made their home in Marion, Iowa and welcomed three daughters into their family. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother and was honored and proud to be able to care for her family. They later retired in Reinbeck, Iowa.
Dorothy was a long-time active member of the Reinbeck Community Church. She loved to garden, and especially enjoyed growing roses, rhubarb, and raspberries. Dorothy cherished her time enjoying coffee with her “coffee ladies” on Wednesdays and Saturdays. In her youth she enjoyed refinishing furniture and was extremely helpful to her husband with improvement projects within the home. Although she loved watching “her stories” she was also an avid reader and was lover of literature. Dennis and Dorothy also loved to “farkle” around. (Drive around and look for deer.) However, Dorothy’s true joy in life came from spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Donna Hageman and Tracy (Dan) Howe; grandchildren Morgan, Ambur, Abigail, Addison, Thomas, and Rhianna; great-grandchildren Ezekiel, Zane, Isabella, and Archer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dennis, youngest daughter Nicole; sisters Evelyn Burdick and Lois Francis.
