M. MAXINE VON STEIN

M. Maxine Von Stein, 93, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will begin at
2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Maxine was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Garrison, Iowa, the daughter of Clarance and Merle (Forsyth) Yoch. She attended school in the Vinton, Iowa, area. Maxine married Richard Von Stein on July 18, 1953, at Cedar Christian Church, Cedar Rapids.
Maxine held various accounting positions, retiring from JC Penney in the 1990s. She was a 50-year member of Cedar Christian Church, where she was active as treasurer/financial secretary. Maxine was also active in the Christian Women's Fellowship until the flood of 2008. She was most recently a member of Peace Christian Church. She loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and Michigan State, reading and doing puzzles.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Sharolyn (Charles) Connel; and grandson, Dean of Cedar Rapids; and brother, William Mathews of New Winzer, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarance and Merle Yoch; husband, Richard, in December 1974; five brothers; and four sisters.
Family and friends would like to thank the pastor and congregation of Peace Christian Church for the support and visits to Maxine during her time at Evergreen Care Center. They would also like to give special thanks to the staff and friends at Evergreen for the loving care afforded to her.
A memorial fund has been established for Peace Christian Church.
