IOWA CITY — Mason Woods is staying close to home.
Woods — the Iowa City West standout, son of Iowa special teams coordinator LeVar Woods and prized 2025 recruit — announced his commitment to Iowa football on Wednesday via social media.
Woods chose the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and other Division I programs. He has a three-star rating from 247Sports, which considers him to be the fourth-best prospect in the state of Iowa.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound athlete is Iowa’s eighth commitment of the 2025 recruiting class. He has played several positions in high school, including wide receiver, linebacker, safety and long snapper. He caught a team-high 35 passes for 535 yards and three touchdowns and intercepted two passes as a junior for the Trojans last fall. Iowa tight ends coach Abdul Hodge recruited him.
His father, LeVar, is widely considered one of the best special teams coordinators in the country. LeVar was a two-year starter at Iowa and one of the team captains in 2000 before embarking on a seven-year NFL career. He has been on Iowa’s staff in various roles since 2008.
