Cheryl was born Nov. 12, 1942, in Inglewood, Calif., the daughter of Milford "Buck" and Ilah (Whitely) Montgomery. Cheryl married Gerald Stone and had many wonderful years with him until his passing in 2011.
Cheryl received her bachelor's degree in music from UCLA and her master's degree in textiles from the University of Iowa. Cheryl had been employed by Hansen Lind Meyer Architects and retired from Cambridge & Associates to Southern California in 2001. In her retirement, Cheryl started SAFFA Wearable Arts and continued that work until her passing. She also loved clogging, tap dancing, playing the piano and spending time with friends and family. She returned to Iowa City in 2016 and worked as a para-educator in the Iowa City school system. She loved working with students of all ages. She even taught art classes to her fellow residents at Vintage Cooperative.
Cheryl was a very active, vivacious, fun-loving friend, grandma, mother, co-worker and aunt. She was a compassionate giver who wanted everyone to be happy.
Survivors include her two children, Carrie Stone of Iowa City and Corbin (Kristine) Stone of Clive; two grandchildren, Eleanor and Truman; two siblings, Rita Montgomery and John (Jean) Montgomery; a niece, Maggie, and nephew, Max.
