CEDAR RAPIDS — A high-speed chase that started in Johnson County ended with a small fire when a Cedar Rapids police vehicle crashed into a gas station, police said.
The chase started Sunday morning, and Cedar Rapids police officers joined the pursuit when the fleeing vehicle, a Cadillac ATS, entered the city, according to the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
The driver led police onto Old Marion Road, where a squad car crashed into a gas station in the 1100 block of Old Marion Road. The officer driving the squad car was uninjured, but a small fire started in the building. Firefighters responded and quickly put out the fire.
The Cadillac was recovered later by police, but the driver was no longer with it and has not been taken into custody, according to the police department.
