Douglas was born on June 13, 1944 in Algona, the son of Arthur and Rose Drabeck Ward. He married Lois June Eekhoff on March 13, 1965, in Kanawha. Doug and Lois owned and operated the A&W on Ellis Blvd. in Cedar Rapids, for 30 years, until the flood of 2008.
Doug enjoyed fishing, going on drives and watching wildlife, collecting farm toys, and going out to eat with Lois. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed socializing with his customers and hosting 50’s Nights at the restaurant. After his retirement from the A&W, he drove buses for the Cedar Rapids Schools and summertime detasseling crews. Above all, Doug loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
